  • Youth Technology Corps | Democratizing Access and Education

Learn More Through our local clubs, we create young LEADERS in their community by inviting them to assume real-world responsibility. We expose them to a STEM curriculum authentically and through that process purposely mentor them to educate and help others. The result is our Corps of prepared youth provide an affordable, accessible template that can both: Connect Communities Locally and Globally Our students are taught the basics that allow them to refurbish computers, focus on a fair donation process, and offer instruction to the community so they can join in on the process. Educate Without Borders (Peer-to-Peer, Synchronous Mentoring) turns students into inspiring teachers, strengthening our students' development of crucial skills while fostering the relationships that allow access to education everywhere. We have been shaping our model for nearly thirty years, and now YTC has the opportunity to play a role in the evolution of education, and we are starting to realize this dream with the establishment of the YTC GLOBAL ALLIANCE Learn More CREATE LEADERS Our Clubs CONNECT COMMUNITIES Bridge the Digital Divide EDUCATE WITHOUT BORDERS Global Reach History Youth Technology Corps operates a peer learning system rooted in education and social justice that has evolved since 1998. Today, fueled by the changes in the post-pandemic world, YTC is uniquely positioned to offer the world an approach to STEM education and societal reform. Since we launched the first YTC club, advancements in virtual participation have opened the door, and bright light has fallen upon a system exacerbating the inequity problem in STEM learning. YTC has always been on the front lines of this battle to democratize the digital world and we started by launching technology clubs designed to train youth to help bridge the digital divide some twenty-five years ago. Using students to become teachers of content in order to deepen their technical capabilities while learning 21st-century skills such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving, we started refurbishing computers, creating computer labs, and teaching computer literacy locally and across North America. The YTC Six Graduates of '23 slideshow slider 6 sliders 4 slider grads 1 slider 6 1/6 YTC's Secret Ingredient The CEE and CSP Programs bring the world to Chicago. Ava will be attending Purdue University for mechanical engineering. "Serving as Co-President of YTC at ETHS has taught me about what it takes to be a quality leader. It has been rewarding working together with many different personalities on both robotics and computer refurbishment. I feel that I have grown my skills on public speaking, collaboration, and organization. Not only has my knowledge about computer refurbishment and Arduinos improved, but also has the ability to teach others. YTC has shown me how much I enjoy being hands on and the importance of spreading my knowledge with others. I can confidently say that this club has well prepared me for engineering in c ollege and beyond." AT THE HEART OF YTC Our local Community Learn More YTC is nothing but an abstract idea without the students in our clubs who dedicate themselves to personal growth, the search for meaningful careers, and a commitment to being agents of change that create a local STEM Ecosystem. • Summer 2022 Robotics | YTC

Summer 2022 Robotics In 2021 YTC launched a virtual summer program robotics for 25 youth in the Chicagoland area. In 2022 those students are ready to be the instructors for a group of 250 new students in Chicago and across North America. This is the power of our approach in introducing robotics across underserved communities all over the country and beyond. It’s a concept that worked well in our pandemic-inspired model and now we are testing it’s scalability. It’s a system where every student becomes a teacher with the opportunity to be rewarded for helping the community grow. In honing this approach, not only are we introducing new students to a STEM Education, but we are also building leaders and problem solvers who are prepared to take what they have learned and build a career path in a technology-driven economy. We’ve been working on this for a few years. YTC’s clubs in Cicero and Evanston IL added robotics in 2017 and YTC students taught robotics to our partners in Durango, Mexico, teaching the class in Spanish on Zoom in 2018. YTC held two virtual summer camps in 2020, 2021 that served 65 students and despite the challenges of distance, culture, and sometimes language over seventy percent of students completed the program. In the process, YTC has created a team of experienced student leaders and teachers ready to lead the new expansion. We are not going into this alone. The students you recruit to join us are in good hands. YTC has a vision that ensures every community has access to a digital future, and through grassroots contributions, we have been able to reach more teens, more families, and more non-profits who may otherwise not have access to today’s modern digital tools. However, for this new expansive effort we have engaged Left Bank Consulting as supporting YTC’s strategic growth. This includes managing the 2022 Introduction to Robotics Summer Camp. Marc Siciliano, Founder and CEO of Left Bank Consulting is an international education consultant with three decades of experience supporting teachers, schools and school districts to improve and adopt STEM strategies .

  • Morton East High School | YTC

Welcome to the HOMEPAGE of Morton East High School's YTC Club. This is where it all began, Morton East High School is our founding club site. It's where an idea formed to change the community using teens as allies and agents of change. On this page learn more about our history, our current club activities, accomplishments, and plans for the future. It all happens here. Over the last quarter of a century, YTC has nurtured a STEM Eco-System that has created a ladder of opportunity, a community of support, and international partnerships. Morton's Cyber-Service started as an independent technology club formed in the basement of their Cicero, Illinois public High School in 1998. Our first students learned how a computer works by building one. One turned into many, and the club learned how to network computers and our youth began launching computer labs and teaching computer literacy at non-profits and primary schools throughout the community.
