ETHS YTC students are sharing their tech know-how with the world through the Evanston club’s Digital Media Program, a unique YTC program in which teens learn to refurbish used computers and then shoot, edit, and upload computer repair how-to videos to the club’s own Youtube channel, http://tinyurl.com/zv8palk.
In this program, sponsored by an Evanston Community Foundation Responsive Grant and contributions from the Jon Kimmel Memorial Fund and the Plumtree Fund, YTC students learn not only the STEM skills of operating computer and video equipment, but also teamwork skills, such as making production plans, directing projects, and meeting deadlines.
This fall, with the addition of Evanston Township High School’s Fine Arts teacher, Amy Moore, to our YTC instructing team, the Digital Media Program began filming in the ETHS Broadcast Media studio, exposing YTC students to additional video, lighting, and green screen equipment.
The ETHS YTC Youtube channel will be another avenue for teens to help “bridge the digital divide” in the worldwide community by providing computer repair information to anyone with internet access. Please check out the channel, and look for more videos coming this spring!
